1. HISTORY.
This Company obtained its charter on the
12th of April, 1842, but did not commence the
transaction of business until the 1st of Febru-
ary, 1843.
Its progress has been marked by uninterrupt-
ed prosperity, affording the most satisfactory
evidence that the institution is based upon
sound principles, and that its affairs have been
judiciously managed. The eminently strong
position and high character it has attained, is
