AGENCY RESULTS AT PINEY WOODS.
THE stock companies in the iniquitous insurance
trust have announced that they will raise rates 20 per
cent in the state and, of course, that takes in old Spruce
county. They claim the raise must be made on account
of the heavy loss ratio. The companies in the trust
have always made money out of Spruce county. What
did they do last year? Ed Beasley, who took in all the
premiums at Sweetwater, told us his collections alone
amounted to nearly $1,4cosay, $1,375 round numbers.
Ed is a gentleman and our friend, and we believe him.
There is standing on his books about $3,150 uncollected
premiums, which has accumulated in several years.
That will all be paid if Congress passes a free-silver
bill and the companies in the combine will pay losses
promptly and not help to kill business any deader than
it is. We have here $4,525 premiums at Sweetwater,
and the only losses was the one on Adams’ livery stable,
which was compromised for $I,600, and Mrs. Williams’
kitchen roof, $37; total, $1,637. In Piney Woods Pikey
Bill Thompson, who is hired to represent the trust, says
he has took in $3,214.70. He is a liar from his youth. If
that much money had passed through his hands all the
guarantee companies in America couldn’t have bonded
him tight enough to keep him in this country. So,
knowing Pikey Bill, we estimate his actual receipts at
about $714. He reported $3,214.70 to the State Commis-
sioner, and he done it to keep his credit up at the Mag-
